HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN ?
Following his 1987 graduation from the Crenshaw Christian Center School of Ministry, Dr. Parker answered the call to ministry in 1989. Returning to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, he founded the Church of the Living Word—now known as World Harvest Christian Church—with an inaugural service in his home on April 2, 1989.
Foundations and Growth
Defined by the Word of Faith and a demonstration of spiritual power, the ministry experienced rapid growth. Within six months, services moved to the University of Akron campus, followed shortly by the acquisition of a dedicated facility. By 1993, the thriving 250-member congregation purchased its first permanent property.
Expanding the Vision
As the ministry transitioned into the prophetic and apostolic move, Dr. Parker focused on leadership development. Key milestones included:
- Media Outreach: The "Put this in your Spirit" television broadcast, which helped grow the membership to over 500.
- Education: The 2001 launch of the Ministry Training Institute.
- Global Impact: The 2003 expansion into international training for thousands of global leaders.
- Academic Partnership: In 2012, the church became an affiliate of Friends International Christian University, offering accredited undergraduate and graduate degrees.
In 2012, the ministry acquired a 6.5-acre campus to facilitate its expanding vision. The following years marked a period of significant geographical expansion:
- 2009: Established Harvest House Christian Center Southwest in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- 2016: Launched a new location in Los Angeles, California, following Dr. Parker’s transition into the apostolic office.
- 2016: Appointed Pastor Joshua Parker as Senior Pastor of the Akron location.
World Harvest Christian Church continues to empower lives globally. In September 2023, the ministry further solidified its presence by purchasing a 33,500-square-foot facility on 4.5 acres in Akron, Ohio.
